Otago Sparks at a glance
Otago Sparks are Otago Cricket's women's representative team, drawing players from Dunedin, Southland, Otago Country and North Otago. They compete in the Women's Super Smash and the 50-over Hallyburton Johnstone Shield.
The Sparks finished fifth in the 2025/26 Super Smash with four wins, five losses, one no-result, four bonus points and 22 points. Wins over Canterbury, Central twice and Auckland were not enough for a third consecutive finals appearance.
Gareth Davies' first season followed an outstanding one-day era built by Craig Cumming: Otago won three Hallyburton Johnstone Shield finals in five seasons, including back-to-back 2023/24 and 2024/25 titles. Their sole national women's T20 crown came in 2016/17.
