The Jaffna franchise entered the inaugural Lanka Premier League as Jaffna Stallions and won the 2020 title. It became Jaffna Kings in 2021 and won again in 2021, 2022 and 2024, giving the same city franchise four championships in the competition's first five editions.

After Jaffna's first two matches, the Players' Management Committee approved Towhid Hridoy as Taskin's replacement because Taskin was unavailable to join. Completed scorecards also record Khawaja Nafay in three Jaffna matches.

Jaffna scored 242/2 and beat Galle's 230/8 by 12 runs in Qualifier 1, which sent the league leaders directly to the final. It did not carry runs, a points advantage or a title into the rematch.

Galle's second-place league finish supplied another route: the Gallants advanced through Qualifier 2 and returned to face Jaffna three days later. The final was a separate match with a fresh toss and new innings.

Jaffna were dismissed for 123 in the final and Galle reached 126/5 in 15.5 overs. The two scorecards show why a playoff win guarantees progression, not the result of a later match against the same opponent.
